Chicago Cubs: Lost Hope to Win the Finals

Chicago had just lost to the Diamondbacks, 8-4, and fell behind in their best-of-five NL division series, 2-0. No one seemed to be epitomizing Chicago’s frustration more than pitcher Ted Lilly.Ted, who is a former Yankee left-handed starting pitcher, was given a 2-0 lead in the top of the 2nd on a home run by Soto. However, only a half-inning later, the player slammed his glove onto the mound as a hit by Young headed for the seats in left field for a 3-run homer. From the beginning, Ted Lilly had trouble controlling his fastball; and Geovany had to jump from his crouch to grab one of his first offerings. Ted was charged with 7 hits and 6 runs before he left after 3 and a third innings. The home run came on a full-count fastball to one of the Diamondbacks 4 rookie starters, even though one of them with 32 regular-season homers. The Chicago Cubs fans, who considered the team to be among the favorites in this series, despite winning 5 fewer games than Arizona, seem to have misjudged the Diamondbacks’ pitching, defense, and determination.
