Piniella Stays With the Cubs

The name of Lou Piniella’s can now be taken off the list of possible candidates to replace Joe Torre at the position of the New York Yankees manager. Piniella remains in Chicago.

Piniella said Thursday that there was nothing to concern anybody with. He is not going to leave the Cubs calling them his last job, where he is going to end his career.

Lou Piniella was rumored as returning to New York after Joe Torre rejected the club’s latest deal offer, leaving after twelve seasons.

The 2007 season, Lou Piniella led the Chicago Cubs to the NL Central Division championship and a 85-77 record in his 1st year with the team. Piniella played for New York from 1974-84, winning WS titles in 1977 and 1978, and managed there from 1986-88.

On October 17, 2006, Piniella signed a 3-year contract with Chicago stating this will be his last managing job.

Lou Piniella confessed that he was very happy with the team and especially the first year, hoping for the same in the future. He is looking forward to finishing his professional career with the Cubs organization.

Piniella was not at all surprised by the news that Joe Torre was leaving the New Your Yankees saying the latter had done really nice things over there. According to his words, Torre was, first of all, a heck of a baseball player. Although his early career as a manager was not all that great, but when he went to work with the Yankees, things clicked. Torre made himself a Hall of Fame manager and had a lot of success.
