Cubs looking for the elusive World Series title in its 100th year
The Chicago Cubs, considered to be one of the major forces in the history of Major League Baseball, has somehow not be able to win the World Series title and have been in the record books as the only team to not win the Series title in the past 100 years. Lou Piniella is determined that the team will arise to the occasion this year as it is not just a next season but it is the 100th season for the Chicago Cubs in the MLB. He wants the players to feel the added pressure during this season and has said that the spring training session beginning this Thursday will be a testing one for the pitchers and the catchers.
Lou Piniella’s message is very clear to his players, “Do not put the burden of not achieving the World Series title for the past 99 years in your mind, and concentrate on the 100th year that is coming up”. Piniella feels that the team has to put aside the past and look ahead for a promising future and wants the team to prove its mettle and play the game on its own merit. He felt that winning the 2008 season will be the best gift that the players can give their ardent fans.
