Will Cubs play in a temporary home ground?
A proposed reconstruction of the Cub’s home ground, Wrigley field, will force them to play at a temporary home venue on the South Side at the U.S Cellular field. The Wrigley’s Field is expected to have a complete makeover with a $250 million renovation plan and if this is to happen, then according to Cubs Chairman, Crane Kenney, the home ground will have to be shifted to the U.S Cellular field controlled by the Illinois Sports Facility Authority (ISFA) and part of the Cubs season will have to be rescheduled with the help of Major League Baseball.
Kenney said that, as of now, the construction would start at the last day of the current season and will be carried out during the off season, so that the ground gets ready for the next season. There has been no approach from Kenney’s side to talk to the Red Sox chairman for the U.S Cellular field venue. Kenney also revealed that three corporates are wying to buy the naming rights of the Wrigley Field, but no decision on the same has been taken so far. The sports architectural company HOK is of the opinion that the renovation can be undertaken without losing a season at Wrigley. So, as it stands, all the decision about the renovation of Wrigley field is at wraps right now.
