DeRosa is pleased that he is playing again

The Chicago Cubs second baseman, Mark DeRosa, was a pretty pleased man for playing his first spring game this year after going through a medical procedure to correct his irregular heart beat condition. DeRosa did not have any practice against real time pitchers prior to his first game and faced his first pitch from Dave Bush of the Milwaukee Brewers. DeRosa said that he did not want to play more during the spring training season so that he could get really fit for the big league. DeRosa wants to take on one game at a time and see how his body will withstand the match playing conditions.

The Cubs manager Lou Piniella said that DeRosa is working pretty hard to get back into the groove and it will take a little more time for him to play freely against live pitching. He put three balls in play during the spring training match against the Milwaukee and expected to carry on from there. He has acknowledged that his timing was way off the track but felt that it will only improve if he gets adequate game practice. DeRosa said that he felt really good playing in the field and wanted to put back all the medical worries behind him and concentrate on playing the game.
