Fukudome has been playing very well since being with the Chicago Cubs. He started off with three hits in the first road game that he played in the league. In his very first few days in the major leagues the outfielder has a batting score of .458 and is leading the team with a .581 base percentage. His slugging percentage is at .708. He also has three doubles, six RBIs and one homer to his credit. He also contributed in a major way to the cubs 10-8 victory against the Pittsburgh pirates. The manager of the team Lou Piniella remarked that though it is not easy to judge right away, they have got the impression that he would perform very well.

 He was nominated for the National League player this week. It was however won by Xavier Nady of Pittsburgh. At the present Fukudome is batting at fifth. According to Piniella he may shift him up against the lefthanders.
