Cubs Lose Out to Phillies 3-5
Phillies 5, Cubs 3
Fans of the Cubs are loathe to see this result earlier on April 11 in the game against the Phillies.
Most notably, Zambrano (1-1) was rebuked for not being in his best form when he throws. “He didnt’ throw all that well, and he was not overpowering in the least,” commented Cubs manager Lou Piniella in disappointment.
The Phillies took full advantage during the fifth inning to gain a 3-2 lead, much to the Cubs’ dismay. Shane Victorino managed to draw a two-out walk, Greg Dobbs successfully hit a drive that Cubs’ center fielder extraordinaire Kosuke Fukudome pursued down the alley. Alas, he dropped the ball in the collision with left fielder Soriano. Dobbs was deemed safe and thus allowing Victorino to score on the double.
This did not please Piniella who came out to contest the result because the Cubs’ Fukudome managed two steps before the ball fell out of his clutches. He was not too happy even after base umpire’s Tim Welke’s insisted on retaining the result.
