Wearing No. 42 a Great Honor, Says Lee
Derrek Lee, Daryle Ward, hitting coach Gerald Perry and bullpen coach Lester Strode will all don No.42 shirts this coming Tuesday to commemorate Jackie Robinson Day.
Lee proudly proclaims that it is indeed an honor to wear this shirt because “anything you can do to bring awareness to what he did and pay your respects to what he did is definitely a good thing!”
Since its inception in the year 2004, Jackie Robinson day was created to remember and honor the first African-American Player to break the color barrier in Major League Baseball. The legend played his first MLB game at Ebbets Field on the momentuous day of April 15 1947. He was a great Brooklyn Dodgers player. To further honor his legacy, his No,42 uniform was retired on his 50th anniversary in 1997.
In related news, the Cubs is expected to play host to the Reds on Tuesday night.
